One thing though: why was he smiling about the idea of a knife to one’s throat?

An Update: Ok, he wasn’t a good man. He probably would have robbed the place if nobody were home to stop him. Still, I don’t know of any court that sentences someone to death for sneaking into a back yard.
Real ID: There is a debate in the Gun-toting community about the current push for National “Reciprocity” legislation which would make state issued concealed -carry gun permits issued legitimate nationwide. Many feel this is a backdoor to Federal control of concealed-carry permit issuance, (and I don’t blame them.) It wouldn’t be a stretch to see this extended to driver’s licensing.
It might be argued that the judges who neglected to jail the burglar for previous offenses, sentenced him to death at the hands of a citizen who takes the social contract seriously. If the judicial system won’t protect the public, the contract is broken and John Q. Public has right, resposibility and authority to protect person and property.
