Music Monday: Come!

 

In Closing: yes yes yes, of course I’ll serve up more NSA, privacy, and Ed Snowden links, you can count on me!; RIP Kalashnikov; ancient super-volcanoes; he’s got the right to say stupid, hateful shit and I’ve got the right to continue ignoring him; nice doggies, bad handlers; not sure why people think they have the right to ignore the law, nor why they think kids having babies is a good idea somehow; a few moments of economic clarity; wouldn’t get much traction as the Screw Everybody Treaty; rich white criminal; zero thinking policies; would require backbone; Cuba; or, you know, we could start school late enough that kids don’t have to walk in the dark.

Sure, I got your random links right here (and why exactly would Snowden take a deal that forces him to shut up?); Muslims; I’m not sure how equal wages equals abortion but then I’m sane; let’s hear it for statistics; friendship; race card; Keystone XL is not only a bad idea, it’s unnecessary; cyberspace robots; and there are moments I miss Seattle.

Music Monday: The Old Apartment

 

Last week I noticed a banner up at an apartment complex reading “Free Turkey.” I thought it was a fine idea. A turkey is a whole lot cheaper than giving $50 off a month’s rent. Further, this can be used as a retention tool for current residents. Give a turkey in exchange for a years lease and you have a chance to update their contract, maybe raise their rent. Plus their lease will be up next year right around the holidays, and who wants to move during the holidays? The banner is even reusable next year.

Better banner than “Now pLeasing.” Leasing pee? If they’re pleasing now, what were they before??

In Closing: last thing we need; on Social Security; a few items on Iran; a follow up; “Common” Core; filibuster; crime, racism, and grammar; a few relatively random items about the internet, privacy, spying, the NSA and FBI, yadda yadda yadda; oatmeal; wrong way; yoga; not a bad idea; TV is dying; and lying presidents.

Music Monday: Veteran’s Day

Okay, I’m not that into country music, but I got me a soft spot for Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.

Veteran’s Day was originally Armistice Day, and it was about the end of The Great War — what we would eventually call World War I. Once there was a second great war, we started calling the day Veteran’s Day. Now, few vets of those days remain with us. Even the Boomers who fought in the Vietnam war are getting Social Security checks.

So most Americans will celebrate the day off of work not with remembrances, but with low, low sale prices.

In Closing: It looks like ENDA will pass the Senate — thanks to of all people, Nevada’s own Dean Heller, who knows Nevadans will sooner elect a crook than a nutcase — but it doesn’t matter because Speaker Boehner might not let it reach the House floor; not that being Gay should matter; ok, can somebody explain to me why a campus health center should be expected to deal anything more complicated than strep throat? Do these same students get upset that they need a real hospital to deal with broken bones?; I wonder how the customer will get screwed on this deal; Uh oh, made Google mad; the irony is how badly child care workers are paid; won’t touch this; pro-drone propaganda; and prosthetic hand on a budget.
